Situated in its own grounds, at the top of the town, La Frégate Hotel in Guernsey has outstanding views over the harbour.La Frégate Hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel in St Peter Port,the capital of Guernsey. It’s hidden away in its own gardens and it’s easy to forget that you’re in the centre of a bustling town. Once a spacious mansion, dating back to the 18th century, rooms are split between the old building and a newer extension. Some have balconies or terraces on which to enjoy Guernsey’s stunning sunrises. You’ll get a warm welcome here, as service is key and it feels more like a private home than a hotel. Highly polished wooden bannisters adorn the main staircase and exposed ceiling beams add to the unique character of the place. We stayed at La Fregate from Friday 31 March to Tuesday 4 April.
The location is ideal – in the town centre, with terrific views over the harbour and bay of St Peter Port.
Our Deluxe Room 304 was well furnished and spacious, with doors onto balcony seating area.
Bathroom excellent.
Complimentary waters and biscuits plus tea and coffee
Breakfasts were lovely – and the Staff made us very welcome.

This hotel was chosen for me because it was next to the office I was visiting. I had a single room – which really was only single size, but had everything I needed. The bathroom was well appointed and everything was clean. The shower was nice even though it was over the bath. I was on the top floor (no lift) and had a brilliant view of the harbour. Small complaint – it was a little chilly in the bathroom and after the shower it took more than an hour for the condensation to disappear. Breakfast was extremely good – beautiful omelette cooked to order and the full English looked great. Sadly did not have a chance to try the restaurant in the evening – it looked wonderful.

If you are in St Peter Port, Guernsey, then a meal at La Fregate is a must. The view from the restaurant is tremendous and the lunchtime menu offers great value. Two excellent courses plus coffee for £19.50 was real value for money and the staff could not have been more attentive or friendly. We will be going back during our next visit to Guernsey.

Why do we not tire of La Fregate? Simple. A lovely hotel. The restaurant is elegant with a gentle silver service. The Head Chef produces an exciting menu that changes with the month and season making eating an excitement not to be missed. If I was able to make a request, it would be to add more New World wines, specifically from South Africa, Australia and New Zeeland. The wine list errs to heavily towards France – in our opinion.
